You can get anything you want
At Alice’s restaurant.
~Arlo Guthrie (Alice’s Restaurant)

Most of us don’t worry about whether we will have food, but instead wonder what to eat and how to make it tasty, enticing, and aesthetic. A basic need, we can’t live without it, but we have an additional desire for diversity and novelty. Our pets eat the same kibble and canned food day after day after day. But we look for pleasing our senses, through the smell, taste, texture, and color of our food.

Buddhist practice of eating slowly with awareness of each bite and its source helps maintain a healthy connection with our food. In a nation of overweight people, we benefit from a balance between pleasure and simplicity when it comes to food.

Inhaled, savored. Minimal, extravagant. Satiated, satisfied. Love, require.

Is there a favorite food, one that always soothes and brings joy?

I love veggies sauteed in my iron frying pan with onions, peppers, garlic and olive oil! I never get tired of that and could probably eat it daily.

Of course who doesn’t love chocolate once in a while?

    • :-). I just made green beans, kale, and mushrooms in olive oil, with chives from my garden, pine nuts and shredded Italian cheese.
